When scaling a page or range of pages in Lakeside Scout, a check is done against the files to ensure the new scaling did not move any objects too close to trim; however, an entirely new preflight check is not performed again. This means that the checks as outlined in the preflight results explained document are NOT checked.

SCALING RISKS

Reducing the size of PDF could introduce issues that were not present in the file.

Here are a couple examples where a scale reduction could lead to areas of concern:

  • Type reducing in size. The type may have been deemed acceptable at its original size but after reduction may be smaller than normally acceptable for print production.
  • Lines becoming thin. Lines that were originally thick enough at the original file size are now thinner due to reduction.

Enlarging the size of PDF could introduce issues that were not present in the file.

Here is an example where a scale enlargement could lead to areas of concern:

  • Depending on the original resolution value, raster images (lineart and halftones) may become low resolution. Scaling an image up in size effectively lowers its resolution.
